Youth held for sending threatening e-mail to CM

Chennai, Aug 9 (UNI) A 23-year-old youth was arrested on charges of sending an e-mail to DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, threatening to kill him and his family.

A police release here today said the mail, sent by one Suresh from Tiruchirapalli, was arrested last night and brought to the city this morning.

He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.

The e-mail, received at the state secretariat yesterday, said ''the Chief Minister should declare all the students, who had failed because of a syllabus introduced by Anna University in 2001, as passed,'' failing which Mr Karunanidhi and his family members would be killed.

Suresh had studied in a private engineering college in Trichy between 2001 and 2005 and did not graduate as he had failed to clear the arrears in three subjects. He had played the prank on the belief that by sending such mails the government would declare him passed and qualify himself for a job.

After finding the mail was sent from a browsing centre in Tiruchirapalli, a special team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, Sudhakar, rushed there and arrested Suresh.
