New Delhi, Aug 9: Leaders of the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA), which had almost reached the brink of disintegration at the time of the Presidential polls, are meeting here this evening to decide their strategy for tomorrow's Vice Presidential elections.

The recently launched Alliance, touted as the third front, has fielded Samajwadi Party MP Rashid Masood as its candidate who is pitted against Mr Hamid Ansari of the UPA-Left and Ms Najma Heptullah of the NDA.

The Alliance includes the AIDMK, the Samajwadi Party, the Indian National Lok Dal, the Telugu Desam and the Asom Gana Parishad.

The presidential polls had witnessed serious differences among the UNPA partners with some of them opting to vote, going against the collective decision taken earlier by its leadership to abstain from voting.

It was also reported that one of the main constituents AIADMK and some others were not happy with the unilateral announcement of the Vice Presidential candidate by the Samajwadi Party at Mumbai.

At a recent press conference, SP leader Amar Singh had claimed that there were no differences and UNPA leaders would meet a day before polls to put up a united front.
