Three militants lay down arms

Imphal, Aug 9 (UNI) Three militants of separate organisations today laid down their arms in front of Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at a function here.

The three militants were Maikam Romenh Shougaijam of United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Sougaijam Jiten of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and Md Alamgir Shah of People's United National Liberation Front (PULF).

Romen of UNLF received training for five months at Tannan in Myanmar and was working under 242 Battalion of UNLF. His last posting was at Angkoching, Myanmar.

He surrendered one 9 mm pistol (Chinese made) with magazine and thirteen live rounds of 9 mm ammunition.

Jiten of KYKL joined the organisation in 2003 and received basic military training at Lunjang, Chandel District.

He surrendered one 9 mm pistol (Chinese made) with magazine, fourteen live rounds of 9 mm ammunition.

Md. Alamgir Shah joined PLA in 1994. He had undergone basic training for two and half month in 2000 at Hinglam at Singhat Sub-Division, Churachandpur District. He was arrested by Police in September 2000 and was later released on bail. Thereafter, in January, 2007 he joined the PULF organisation.

He surrendered one AK Rifle with modified magazine, seven live rounds of AK ammunition.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said it is the duty of the government to look after the militants who surrendered and assured them that they would be protected.
