Temblor rattles buildings in Indonesian capital

Bangkok, Aug 9 (UNI) A major earthquake measuring seven plus on the Richter scale struck Indonesia's Java island early today, rocking buildings but with no reported casualties.

According to reports this morning from Jakarta, no tsunami alert was issued as the epicentre of the temblor was located nearly 300 km undersea, about 100 km northwest of Indonesia's main island.

The tremblor was felt several hundred kilometres away across Java, including in the capital Jakarta.

Residents of the archipelago nation's most populous island ran out of homes and buildings when the quake struck a few minutes after midnight.
