SP leader booked for objectionable statementon SC,ST

Bareilly, Aug 9 (UNI) Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh urban development minister Mohd Azam Khan has been booked for allegedly making an objectionable statement against Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) here.

''Mr Khan had been found guilty of giving objectionable statement against the SC and ST, while addressing a gathering yesterday,'' Inspector General of Police (Bareilly zone) Gurbachan Lal said here today.

The senior leader was campaigning for the scheduled by-election in the Swartanda assembly seat on August 31.

A case had been registered against Mr Khan under the People Representative Act.

The SP leader had earlier been booked under charges of issuing life threats and encroaching upon land.
