Sexually harassed housewife commits suicide

Barrackpore, Aug 9 (UNI) Police have recovered the burnt body of a 19-year-old housewife from her Talpukur residence in North 24 Parganas here.

A senior police officer here today said Pinki Roy committed suicide yesterday by setting herself afire because her father-in-law, Shibnarayan Roy, had allegedly harassed her sexually.

Pinki's husband, Sonu Roy, was said to have made an abortive attempt to rescue her. He sustained burn injuries as well and was admitted to the sub-divisional hospital.

Police arrested Shibnarayan and investigation was on, the officer added.
