Rodrigues visits sector 17 ISBT

Chandigarh, Aug 9 (UNI) Sharing his concern over the problems being faced by the passengers who visit the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Sector 17 in the city, the Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues today directed the authorities to give it a facelift, by equipping it with state-of-the-art facilities and upgrading the infrastructure. He asked the Home Secretary and Director Transport, Chandigarh Administration to commission a study for introducing innovative changes as per standardised specifications, aiming to improve the conditions for the convenience of passengers.

General Rodrigues went round the various facilities and inspected the shopping stalls, CITCO's transit accommodation, restaurant, guest rooms, information boards and toilets and asked the management to bring about further improvement in services.

He directed the officers to evolve a monitoring system for periodical analysis of the services and to make need-based additions. He also directed the Director Transport to evolve an effective mechanism to keep a check on the rates being charged by the shop owners for varied services and to ensure that the passengers are not over charged or harassed in any way.

The Administrator also visited the different counters and asked the authorities to display proper sign boards depicting relevant information for the convenience of the passengers.

He also gave directions for ensuring proper security arrangements at the cash counters and all other facilitating points, attracting the public, as per standardised guidelines.

During the visit, General Rodrigues also interacted with the passengers and inquired about the quality of food and other services being made available at the bus terminus.

Presently, the ISBT daily receives about one lakh passengers and over 2000 buses, which depart to various destinations both inter state and within the Union Territory, Chandigarh. The Transport Department of the Chandigarh Administration had undertaken the renovation work of the bus stand to give it a new look and to add facilities for the passengers.
