Ranjit Narayanis Andaman's first DGP

Port Blair, Aug 9: The Andaman and Nicobar island will have Ranjit Narayan as the first Director General of Police (DGP) after the recent upgradation of the post from Inspector General.

Official sources here today said Ranjit Narayan, a 1978 batch IPS officer, would join as the union territory's first DGP tomorrow.

Prior to this, Mr Narayan had worked in Delhi, Goa and Pudduchery Police departments.

He was in the Intelligence Bureau and Special Protection Police Advisory group of Atlanta Olympics in 1996, sources added.

Mr Narayan had been awarded the 'President's Police Medal' for 'Meritorious Service' in 1994 and for 'Distinguished Service' in 2003.
