Ranjit Narayan Andaman's first DGP

Port Blair, Aug 09 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar island will have it's first Director General of Police after the Centre recently upgraded the police department from Inspector General to DGP.

Official sources here today said Ranjit Narayan, 1978 batch IPS officer, would join as the union territory's first DGP tomorrow.

Prior to this, Mr Narayan had worked in Delhi, Goa and Pudduchery Police departments.

He was in the Intelligence Bureau and Special Protection Police Advisory group of Atlanta Olympics in 1996, sources said.

Mr Narayan had been awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1994 and for Distinguished Service in 2003.
