Rain fury continues unabated in Junagadh, Porbandar
Junagadh, Aug 9 (UNI) The flood situation in Veraval, Keshod, Junagadh and Porbander continued to be grim with heavy rains pounding Gujarat for the fourth consecutive day today, throwing normal life out of gear in the state Veraval, Talala and Sutrapada towns and 107 villages in the district were cut off from rest of the state with road and rail traffic completely disrupted and telephone networks jammed due to heavy water-logging. Many areas were also without electricity, official sources said.
Seventy-four high tension (HT) poles and 47 low tension (LT) poles have fallen down under the impact of flood fury. Some areas of Veraval town, with a 2.5 lakh population, are still under knee-deep water.
In nearby Porbandar district, the rains began at 1900 hours yesterday and are still continuing. In the last 12 hours, Porbandar town recorded 250 mm. Three talukas, including Porbandar town, Ranavav and Kudiyana, were cut off from road and rail connectivity and there was no electricity in the areas. Chhaya area in Porbandar town was under 5-feet water.
Two dams in Porbandar district, Phodada and Khambada were overflowing.
