PM Koirala receives credentials of American ambassador
Kathmandu, Aug 9 (UNI) Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today received the letters of credence from newly appointed US ambassador to Nepal Nancy J Powell and North Korean Ambassador Jang Young Chol.
Mr Koirala is also the head of state under the new interim constitution that has suspended the monarchy.
Before this, the Chinese ambassador to Nepal had presented his letter of credence to the prime minister. He became the first diplomat to present his credentials to the prime minister and not to the king.
King Gyanendra's rule ended after the success of the popular movement against the dictatorial regime of the monarchy.
Gyanendra, who had sacked the elected government and had declared himself the chairman of the council of ministers, had to give up all the state powers.
