Nair exhorts youth to adopt science as career
Bhopal, Aug 9 (UNI) Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair today called upon youths to choose science and technology as their career.
''It is unfortunate that interest in science and technology is declining due to inclination of youth towards information technology and service sector,'' said Mr Nair, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan 2007 here today.
He said the economic development was taking place as a result of growth in service sector. However, rural areas were still deprived of water, health and other basic facilities.
Pointing out that European nations were progressing on the path of development with the help of science and technology, Mr Nair said overall development was not taking place in the country despite huge possibilities and wealth of knowledge in the country.
Expressing satisfaction on the progress made on education front, he said talents were coming up despite dearth of good institutions in the country.
He asked youth to take better education and improve the state of affairs of education of the country.
'Param' Computer's inventor Vijay Bhatkar, who was special guest on the occasion, called upon scientists to use their knowledge for resolving problems of the country.
Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology Director General Mahesh Sharma presided over the function.
