More than 1,000 people affected by Chikungunya

Barasat, Aug 9 (UNI) More than 1000 people have been afflicted with Chikungunya in Habra and Baduria of North 24 Parganas district.

Chief Medical Officer (Health) Dr Kusum Kumar Adhikary along with Dr Aditi Kishor Sarkar today visited a number of medical camps in Koipukur and Kumro-Kashipur area.

Dr Adhikary told newspersons that though the number of patients suffering from Chikungunyawass increasing, it could not be termed epidemic as no loss of life had been reported from any part of the district so far.

A medical team collected blood samples from some of the patients, besides larva of mosquitoes and other insects from the affected area for entomological tests to ascertain the actual carriers of the virus, he added.

Dr Adhikary, however, said about 800 people had been affected by Chikungunya, while the others had been suffering from dengue.
