Nadiad (Gujarat), Aug 9 (UNI) Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated 'Viranjali Van Mahotsav' at Nes village in Kheda district, 35 km from here.

Addressing the gathering Mr Modi said he has doubled the pension of the freedom-fighters including those from Daman&Diu and Goa who are residing in the state.

He also said NGOs which are doing good work through the 'Viranjali Van Mahotsav' will be rewarded Rs 1,857 lakhs in memory of the first war of independence (1857).

''The previous state government had planted saplings and during my time these saplings are being nursed so as to become trees in the future,'' Mr Modi added.

In 1857 freedom-fighters sacrificed their lives to make this country free but foreign leadership of the present ruling Congress dispensation at the Centre has adopted a new slogan: ''Narendra Modi gaddi choddo,'' Mr Modi remarked sarcastically.
