Kazakhstan strongly objects to reports of Dawood's presence

New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) The Kazakhstan embassy here today strongly denied media reports that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was in Kazakhstan and described these as ''unsubstantited and frivolous'' which did not do any good to the fight against terrorism.

A strongly-worded statement issued by the embassy said Kazakhstan is an active partner in combating international terrorism and drug trafficking and contributes greatly to maintaining international peace and security against emerging challenges and threats.

The claims made by some media with reference to intelligence sources that Dawood Ibrahim is in Kazakhstan, are ''unsubstantiated.'' ''There are proper channels to be used to deal with these kinds of issues, rather than the press medium. Frivolous and sensationalist speculations on such sensitive issues, without hard evidence does not bring any good to the fight against terrorism, but evoke unnecessary emotions,'' the statement said.

It also called for being more accurate in reporting terrorism-related issues and using solid facts, rather than relying only on some ''dubious intelligence sources.'' A section of the media here had said that Dawood Ibrahim, who is reportedly in Pakistan, was planning to go to Kazakhstan following pressure by the US on Pakistan government to arrest him.
