K'taka: Karnapex-2007 to display 1,50,000 stamps
Bangalore, Aug 9: More than 1,50,000 stamps will be on display in the 10th Karnataka Philately Exhibition 'Karnapex-2007,' beginning here on August 10, Karnataka Chief Post Master General Ms Meera Dutta said.
Talking to newsmen here yesterday, she said over 500 frames, including 121 from Juniors in the age group 11 to 18, and 20 frames from school collections would be set up during the three day exhibition.
She said renowned philatelist Dr Sita Bhateja would display her collections on Great Britain and Pre-Independence India, while Ms Kusum Mehta, another well-known philatelist would display her collections on Morhi (Former Indian State Saurashtra), apart from Pradip Jain from Kolkata.
Thematic collections from philatelists, based on the themes of Mahatma Gandhi, Women on stamps, Science and Technology, Sports, Space, Astronomy, Endangered Species, Festivals, Flora and Fauna, would be presented.
The main feature of Karnapex-2007 would be display of collections of handwritten letters of Karnataka literary giants Kuvempu and Da Ra Bendre, among others.
Ms Dutta said the winners of Silver medal and above, in Karnapex-2007 exhibition, are eligible to participate in the 'National Philatelic Exhibition-INPEX-2008', to be held in Chennai from January 2, 2008.
The Department of Posts would pay tribute to the martyrs of the first freedom struggle in 1857, by releasing a set of stamps on First War of Independence today, she said.
