"Jyoti Yatra" from Aug 14 by Karnataka Congress

Chennai, Aug 9 (UNI) The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will take out a ''Jyoti Yatra'' from Sriperumbudur, the place where Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a suicide bomber, to New Delhi to commemorate the late Prime Minister's birth anniversary, which falls on August 20.

The 'yatra' would leave the Rajiv Memorial at Sriperumbudur, about 40 km from here, on August 14 and reach his samadhi ''Veer Bhoomi'' at New Delhi on August 19 after traversing through Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, AICC member and KPCC Labour Cell Convenor S S Prakasam said in a statement here yesterday.

KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge would flag off the 'yatra' in the presence of senior party leaders including Veerappa Moily and CWC member G Parameshwar.

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rengasamy, Tamil Nadu CLP Leader D Sudarshanan, MP J M Haroon andl MLA Vasanthkumar would also be present.

After reaching Delhi, the KPCC activists would garland the statue of the late leader and take out a procession to the AICC headquarters.

On August 20, the workers would take out a procession at 0400 hrs in the morning and reach 'Veerbhoomi' at 0600 hrs, where the torch would be handed over to AICC President Sonia Gandhi.
