New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) JD(S), an ally of BJP in Karnataka, tonight maintained that it would not support Vice Presidential nominees of both Congress and BJP.

"The National Executive of the Janata Dal (Secular) has committed itself time and again to maintaining equidistance with both the Congress and the BJP at the national level," party president and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda said.

The party had kept this line in the recently concluded Presidential election. "The party has decided to abide by the same principle in the upcoming elections to the post of the Vice President of India,'' Mr Gowda said.

He also made it clear that the party would not extend support to any other candidate also for the post of Vice-President.

He however made it clear that JD (S) would not issue any whip to its MPs who had resolved to maintain the party's consistent stand on the issue.
