Bangalore, Aug 9: In a bid to leverage advantage in reaching out to its clients in the US, IT giant Infosys Technologies would venture into Latin America by opening BPO facility in Mexico soon.

Speaking to reporters here last night, company CEO and Managing Director, S Gopalakrishnan, said the 200-seat facility was being set up in the Latin American country. "We have our own place now. The unit will be operation soon," he said.

Infosys was presented the top award for being the best IT exporter in Karnataka at a glittering function organised here last night.

The centre is being established in the city of Monterrey and the focus was on BPO at present. "It is BPO to start with in Mexico. We will see how we grow in this country, then we will decide on other services. Infosys is looking at other prospective countries to set up BPO operations," he said.

"Mexico is the closest in time zone to cater to our clients in the US who are familiar with that country. The other advantage is that there is a good talent pool. We have employees of around 65 nationalities and we are scaling up hiring of locals," he said.

Infosys the second biggest IT services exporters in the country behind TCS, accounts over 97 per cent of its total revenue through its global business.
