Hryna sends Rs 1217 crore irrigation proposals to Centre

Kaithal, Aug 9 (UNI) Haryana government had submitted projects worth Rs 1217 crore to the Cntre for approval to improve irrigation infrastructure and bring 2.38 crore hectares additional area under irrigation in the next four years.

This was stated by veteran Congress leader and President All India Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress S. S. Surjewala MLA while addressing farmers here today.

He said that as many as 46 projects funded by NABARD had been completed and work on 27 other projects was going on speedily. He said water carrying capacity of Nehru Feeder had been increased from 1600 cusecs to 2000cusecs and efforts were under way to increase it further to 200 cusecs .

Mr Surjewala said that work of increasing capacity of Westren Yamuna Canal from 1400 to 2000 cusecs was in advanced stage and after completion of these projects all areas of the state will get equitable water fro irrigation and this will also help in increasing the water table .

He further said that thirty percent construction work of Rs 267 Dadupur Nalvi canal had been completed. Hansi-Butana canal, when completed, will benefit farmers of 16 districts including Jind and Kaithal, he said.
