Chennai, Aug 9 (UNI) The Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) will hold a black flag demonstration during Congress President Sonia Gandhi's visit to Rameswaram on August 12.

Talking to reporters here today, HMK State President Arjun Sampath said the demonstration was to condemn Ms Gandhi's visit to inaugurate the broad guage rail link connecting Rameswaram with the mainland as it coincides with the auspicious ''Aadi Amavasai'' which draws lakhs of pilgrims from all over the country.

The stringent security measures for her visit had put a host of pilgrims to a lot of inconvenience and hurt them.

The HMK's decision to show black flags was also to condemn the Centre's decision to go ahead with the dredging works under the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project by demolishing the Ramar Bridge, he said.
