Heavy rains lash several places in HP

Shimla, Aug 6 (UNI) A girl was washed away in flash flood in Kangra district while several places in Himachal Pradesh received heavy rains during the past 24 hrs.

A five year girl was washed away in a khud near Harnota in Jawali sub division of Kangra following a flash flood. Flash floods also resulted in massive land erosion in Kotal area of this district and even endangered the Kotla village.

The residents of Kotala village near the river bed shifted to safer locations. The panic gripped Kotla village following the flash floods today.

Heavy rains were recorded in Chamba, Mandi, and Dharamshala districts of the state.

Meanwhile, the rains left National Highway connecting Pathankot with Mandi blocked for seven hours following heavy landslides at Khatian near Kotla this morning. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the National Highway.

Nurpur SDM I S Bhardwarj said sixteen houses were washed away at Khajian village of Kangra disrict and at Jasure in Jabbar Khud near Tapu while 200 people were rescued by authoriteis to safer places.

The met office said Bangana in Una district recorded 15 mm rain, Pandoh in Mandi district 22 mm and Sarkaghat in Mandi 27 mm.

The met office said Rohru in Shimla district experienced 7.3 mm rain, while Dharamshala in Kangra district recorded a high of 74.6 mm rain and Nurpur also in Kanga district recorded 68.5 mm rain.

Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 16.8 degrees, Sundernagar 23.3, Bhuntar 22.4, Dhaamshala 20.7, Kalpa 12.1, Nahan 22.6 and Una 23.3 degree Celsius, the met office said.
