HC for CBI probe into custodial death

Kochi, Aug 9 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today issued a notice to the CBI and the state government on a petition by Prabhavathyamma, whose son Udayakumar died in custody at the Fort police station in Thiruvananthapuram recently.

Justice R Basanth issued the notice after the petitioner alleged that her son died due to ''custodial torture''.

Seeking a CBI enquiry into the incident, the petitioner contended that the police officers had changed their statements in the case and said there was every likelihood of the acccused being acquitted if the trial went on like this.

She also sought action against the police officers who had disowned their statements.
