GSM subscriber base up 6.7 pc in July

New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) Led by Bharti Airtel, country's GSM players added 57,52,274 susbscribers in July, registering an increase of 6.7 per cent over the previous month.

Bharti Airtel was the leading market player with 31.58 per cent market share and added 20,59,453 users in the month as against 19,60,213 users during last month, a statement issued by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said.

Vodafone Essar added 16,85,567 subscribers in July as against 15,42,217 subscribers in June holding a market share of 22.88 per cent.

State-owned BSNL with a market share of 20.44 per cent added 5,55,751 users in the month as compared to 4,28,873 users last month, while MTNL added 60,162 subscribers in July as against 60,916 subscribers in June.

Aditya Birla group company Idea Cellular with 12 per cent market share added 8,77,931 users in the month in comparison to 8,59,778 users last month.

Spice Telecom, operating in Karnataka and Punjab circle, added 1,19,971 subscribers in July as against 1,63,306 subscribers last month, while Aircel capturing five per cent market share added 3,86,862 users in July as against 3,66,391 users previous month.

BPL Mobile, operating only in Mumbai circle, added 6,577 users in July in comparison to 5,543 users last month.
