Govt supersedes Judicial Officers Housing Society

Bangalore, Aug 9 (UNI) In a major development the Karnataka government today superseded the Judicial Officers Housing Society, which had been accused of malpractice and appointed Administrator to look after the day to day affair.

The Society was dogged in controversy over a report submitted by Joint House Committee headed by legislator A T Ramaswamy which studied into encroachment of government lands, mainly in and around Bangalore.

The Committee had recommended 'strong' action against the Society alleging that it had committed illegal land development, sanctioned sites to non members and involved financial misappropriation to the tune of Rs 150 crore.

Official sources said the government today ordered superseding of the Society and appointment of a government official as its Administrator.

The House Committee in its report had said that the members of the Society had sold sites to some legal luminaries who were not its members.

Those who benefited from the Society include former and serving Supreme Court and High Court judges. The issue had been raised in both the houses of the Karnataka legislature.
