Former Karnataka Minister opposes diversion of Netravathy river

Mangalore, Aug 9 (UNI) Former Karnataka Minister and senior Congress B Ramanath Rai today strongly opposed the proposed Netravathy River diversion project.

The project was 'most unscientific, anti-environmental and harmful to all agricultural activity of Daxina Kannada District, he alleged.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that Netravathy was the life line of the people who were totally depending on it for both agriculture and drinking purpose. "Any proposal to divert the river would definitely lead to scarcity of water which was already facing acute shortage of water during summer due to unpredictable rainfall during last few years," he alleged.
