Delhi Cong observes Quit India anniversary, honours freedom fighters
New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) Honouring of freedom fighters who participated in the struggle for Independence from British rule today marked observance of the 65th anniversary of the Quit India Movement by the Delhi Congress in the Capital.
On this occasion, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee honoured two veteran freedom fighters from Punjab Mohan Singh Bhammi and Inderjit Singh Bhatia at a function at its headquarters here.
Both the freedom fighters were felicitated by draping them with a shawl and garlanding them.
Present on the occasion were several Congress MLAs like Tajdar Babar, Malaram Gangwal and Municipal Councillors, including Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Jaikishen Sharma, former Chairman of the MCD Standing Committee Mukesh Goyal and Brijmohan Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ram Babu Sharma exhorted the party workers to imbue the spirit of patriotism, sense of purpose, equality and fighting spirit from freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives for the country's freedom.
Meanwhile, the DPCC today announced the appointment of Maj Dr T C Rao as chairman of its ex servicemen cell for a period of five years.
