Dam on Tapti river being repaired

Betul (MP), Aug 9 (UNI) Repair works started on the Chandora reservoir on the Tapti river in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh after 100-metre portion of the earthen dam had caved in.

A high alert was sounded in 100 villages and six villages vacated as the officials had taken emergency steps to empty the reservoir yesterday.

Water Resources Department Executive Engineer R C Rathor told UNI here that all eight gates of the dam had been opened from yesterday to control water level.

Situation had returned to normal with receding water level and reduction in intensity of rainfall.
