Chakki Bridge collapses

Pathankot, July 9 (UNI) A portion of the bridge over the Chakki river collapsed this morning following a sudden rise in the water level in the river, official sources here said.

Official said that about 200-feet of the bridge caved in after three pillars were swept away by the strong currents of the Chakki river. The bridge lies on the Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border and is the only link from this part of Punjab to Dharamsala, Manali and Kangra.

The portion of the bridge that collapsed lies in Punjab territory while the remaining portion in Himachal Pradesh. Traffic to the hill state has been cut off.
