Centre sanctions 63 projects under NLCPR in NE

Shillong, Aug 9 (UNI) The Centre has sanctioned 63 projects under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources(NLCPR) in the North Eastern Region during 2006-07.

An amount of Rs 648.67 crore had been released with the highest amount being for the development of Roads and Bridges Sector to enhance connectivity in the region.

Other areas of focus include education, health, irrigation and flood control, power, water supply and sewerage, and miscellaneous areas like sports, market buildings and tribal development.

During the same year, the budgetary provision for NLCPR was Rs 700 crore as 'Grant' component only. Till the end of 2006, a sum of Rs 530.10 crore had been released to the NE States under such provision.

The broad objective of the NLCPR scheme was to ensure speedy development of infrastructure in the NE Region by increasing flow of budgetary financing for new infrastructure projects/schemes in the region.
