Bullion turnover rises 74 pc on MCX

Mumbai, Aug 9 (UNI) Bullion turnover registered a 74 per cent (pc) rise in the first session ended 1700 hrs today from previous day's corresponding session at Rs 1604.12 crore, of which gold contracts accounted for Rs 963.17 crore and silver contracts Rs 640.95 crore on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).

Gold contract volumes were 10,834 kgs and open interest (OI) 10,035 kgs while silver volumes were 362,265 kgs and OI 419,925 kgs.

Gold contracts, including gold mini, shed between Rs 22 and 66 per 10 gms. Gold October 07 contract was down 0.74 pc at Rs 8866 per 10 gms, an MCX release said.

Silver contracts, including silver mini, fell between Rs 11 and 191 per kg. The September contract was down 1.07 pc at Rs 17,600 per kg.

Turnover on MCX in the first session up to 1700 hrs today was Rs 4,717.68 crore, up 7.3 pc from the previous day's corresponding session. Trades numbered 87,817.

Turnover on Wednesday up to 23.30 hrs totaled Rs 10,890.1 crore, up 4.92 pc from the previous day's turnover.

MCX Comdex -- the composite index of metals, energy and agri indices -- was down 0.71 pc at 2133.14 points. MCX Metal Index lost 1.03 pc at 2458.81 points, MCX Energy Index dipped 0.72 pc to 2206.57 points while MCX Agri Index gained 0.2 pc at 1761.58 points.

In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 1,081.48 crore. Volumes were 35,491,000 kgs and OI 16,074,000 kgs.

Copper contracts traded in a mixed range of Rs 4.85 and Rs 1.45 per kg, with the August delivery contract down 1.58 pc at Rs 302.3 per kg.

Turnover of all zinc contracts was Rs 514.68 crore with volume of 36,710 tonnes and OI of 38,760 tonnes. Zinc contracts fell between Rs 1.55 and 2.30 per kg. Zinc August contract receded by 1.63 pc at Rs 138.9 per kg.

Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 249.98 crore with volume of 2,195,250 kg and OI of 2,338,000 kg. Nickel for August delivery lost 3.33 pc at Rs 1120.4 per kg.

Turnover of all aluminium contracts was Rs 10.23 crore with volume of 964 tonnes and OI of 3,552 tonnes. Aluminium August contract was down 1.27 pc at Rs 105.05 per kg and September contract shed 1.34% to close at Rs 107 per kg.

Lead contracts turnover was Rs 383.29 crore with volume of 30,740 tonnes and OI of 7,565 tonnes. Lead for August delivery receded by 2.89 pc at Rs 122.55 per kg.

In the energy segment, crude oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 541.41 crore. Volumes were 1,856,100 barrels and OI 1,204,100 barrels. Crude oil August contract fell 1.22% at Rs 2908 per barrel.

Natural gas turnover across all contracts was Rs 12.66 crore with volume of 487,000 mmBTU and OI of 2,507,500 mmBTU. Natural gas contract for August delivery was up 1.14 pc at Rs 256.4 per mmBTU.

Among agri commodities, refined soya oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 151 crore with volume of 30,400 tonnes and OI of 36,970 tonnes. Soya oil for August delivery was unchanged at Rs 493.4 per 10 kg.

Guarseed contracts turnover was Rs 4.2 crore with volume of 2,440 tonnes and OI of 3,580 tonnes. Guarseed August was up 0.65 pc at Rs 1705 per quintal.

Potato (Agra and Tarkeshwar) witnessed a turnover of Rs 43.83 crore with volume of 66,030 tonnes and OI of 84,570 tonnes. Potato Agra August lost 0.13 pc at Rs 624.4 per quintal while potato Tarkeshwar August was down 0.48 pc at Rs 658/quintal.

Mentha oil contracts witnessed a turnover of Rs 56.39 crore with volume of 1,033 tonnes and OI of 978 tonnes. Mentha oil for August delivery was up 0.55 pc at Rs 546.5 per kg.

Chana contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 10.75 crore, volume of 4,660 tonnes and OI of 3,760 tonnes. Chana for August delivery was up 1.03 pc at Rs 2256 per quintal.

Kapas khalli turnover was Rs 4.98 crore, volume 6,730 tonnes and OI of 12,610 tonnes. Kapaskhali for August delivery was down 0.32 pc at Rs 368.3 per 50 kg.

Cardamom contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 9.39 crore, volume of 179 tonnes and OI of 388 tonnes. Cardamom August fell 0.76 pc at Rs 512 per kg.

Jute contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 7.36 crore, volume of 5,510 tonnes and OI of 4,390 tonnes.

Robusta coffee turnover was Rs 0.47 crore with volume of 61 tonnes and OI of 430 tonnes.

Soyabean turnover was Rs 4.39 crore, volume 28,400 tonnes and OI 18,700 tonnes.
