BJP activists stage protests in Vidarbha
Nagpur, Aug 9 (UNI) BJP Activists today staged protests and courted arrest at 177 places in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra as part of its state-wide agitation against the alleged failures of the incumbent Democratic Front (DF) government.
At least 30,000 activists courted arrest after staging road blockades in various parts of the region, a BJP spokesman told UNI.
Among those who courted arrest were Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Pandurang Phundkar besides Members of Parliament and legislators belonging to the party, he said.
In Amravati, the party's women activists staged a mock funeral of an effigy of the DF government, the spokesman said adding that the effigy was later consigned to flames in a mock cremation.
