Bajaj Auto's DTS-Si engine offers 109km/l
New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) Auto maker Bajaj today launched 'Digital Twin Spark-Swirl induction (DTS-Si)' which promises mileage of 109 kilometres per litre under the ideal test conditions.
The newly launched 125cc engine will surpass the mileage of all current 100cc motorcycles, company said in a statement.
The first product, which will be powered by this engine, would be launched next month.
''We realised that at light loads on DTS-i, an opportunity existed to improve the combustion even further. When burning lean Air-Fuel mixtures through the two spark plugs, the combustion conditions could be further improved by generating high turbulence in the combustion chamber. Once the solution was arrived at, the design and geometry modifications followed,'' company's Head R&D Abraham Joseph said.
Bajaj is having 47 per cent market share in 125cc and 150cc segments, as against a smaller share of 24 per cent in the declining but larger 100 cc segment.
