AIYF volunteers held

Puducherry, Aug 9 (UNI) As many as 122 volunteers of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF), including 11 women, were arrested when they attempted to picket the Puducherry Legislative Assembly in support of their demands.

The AIYF volunteers took out a procession from the Periyar Statue to the Assembly where they were stopped by the police triggering an altercation.

The were demanding among other things provision of unemployment allowance to the educated youths here and priority for local youths in employment opportunities in industrial units here.

AIYF All India Secretary K Murugan led the agitation.Earlier CPI National Council Member R Viswanathan, MLA and State Secretary Na Ra Kalainathan, MLA, flagged off the procession.
