6 'Kanwarias' killed in UP road mishaps
Lucknow, Aug 9 (UNI) At least six 'Kanwarias' were killed and 15 others critically injured in asynchronous road accidents at Allahabad and Muzaffarnagar districts of Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours.
'Kanwarias' are Shiv devouts and undertake pilgrimage during the ongoing holy month of 'shrawan.' According to police, two people were killed and three others sustained serious injuries after being hit by a speeding truck in Inayat area near Habuja crossing in Allahabad this evening.
Irked over the incident, a mob led by 'Kanwarias' blocked the busy Allahabad-Varanasi Highway, besides torching the concerned truck.
The demostration resulted in traffic snarl for a couple of hours.
The mob could only be brought under control after senior officials reached the spot.
The wounded were rushed to a nearby health centre, while the identity of the deceased remained unknown.
In a separate incident, four devotees died and 12 others were grievously injured after an overcrowded SUV, carrying 17 persons, collided head-on with a truck in Thana Bhavan area in Muzaffarnagar late yesterday.
The victims were identified as Sunil, Rakesh, Vinod and driver Imran, all native of Sonipat town in Haryana.
The injured had been admitted to hospital in a serious condition.
