44-yr old man rapes own daughters

Aizawl, Aug 9(UNI) A 44-year-old man in Kolasib was arrested here on Monday for alledgedly raping his daughters over the past six years.

The leaders of the Kolasib branch of Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP),a women's organisation,came to know of the incident from the friends of the younger daughter, aged seven. She told her friends that her father had "slept" with her.

"The MHIP leaders then filed an FIR resulting in the arrest of the man," informed a member of MHIP.

"Lalropianga, the father of the victims,had confessed before the police that he had been raping his daughters," a police official informed.

"His unsuspecting wife as well as the older daughter remained silent on the issue. The heinous crime remained under the carpet only to be revealed by the innocent younger daughter, who apparently did not realise the magnitude of the crime," according to Member of the Child Welfare Committee Ruatfela Nu.

"The shocking incident emphasise the need for awareness in sex education in our society," she added.

CWC chairperson Lalengruali Sailo said, "90 per cent of rape cases the CWC has dealt with originated within the family." UNI
