11,000 new buses to join UPSRTC fleet
Lucknow, Aug 9 (UNI) With the objective to strengthen the public transport system and reduce the rush of private vehicles, 11,000 new buses will be added in Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation's (UPSRTC) existing fleet during the current 11th five year plan.
UP Transport Minister Ram Achal Rajbhar said here the pressure of vehicles on the roads was increasing day-by-day due to urbanisation.
To tackle this problem, the state government had decided to strengthen the public transport system.
For this, a capital expenditure of Rs 2,214 crore for corporation during the 11th plan had been proposed.
The Transport Minister added with this, the public will get economical and comfortable transportation facility.
During the 11th plan period, an expenditure of Rs 1,934 crore on chassis purchase, construction of bus bodies and overhauling of old buses is estimated.
According to Mr Rajbhar, an amount of Rs 280 crore is to be spent on expansion of passenger amenities, modernisation of workshops/plants and computerisation.
