107 villages in Junagadh cut off due to rains

Junagadh, Gujarat, Aug 9 (UNI) As many as 107 villages in this district along with the towns of Veraval, Talala and Sutrapada continued to remain cut off as rains continued to lash the district for the fourth consecutive day today.

In neighbouring Porbander district, Porbandar town, and Ranavav and Kudiyana talukas have been cut off from road and rail connectivity.

Disruption in the power supply has also added to the miseries of the people in these two districts.

In Junagadh district, Keshod recorded 177 mm rains today, Junagadh 52 mm, Talala 149 mm, Manavadar 100 mm, Hatina 170 mm, Mangrol 84 mm, Vanthali 73 mm, Sutrapada 95 mm and Mendarda 72 mm.

Some areas of Veraval town, with 2.5 lakh population, are still under 5-foot water. Since the onset of rains, Junagadh district has reported six deaths. Likwise, the Chhaya locality in Porbandar town is also under 5-foot water.

Two dams in Porbandar district -- Phodada and Khambada -- are overflowing.
