Two Excise Inspectors get 2-day CBI remand for taking bribe

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Two Central Excise inspectors nabbed by the CBI yesterday were today remanded to two days' custody of the agency by a special court.

CBI judge S K Kaushik handed them the remand.

The CBI had arrested the two Inspectors posted in Janakpuri here, for accepting bribe of Rs two lakh.

The inspectors--Someshwar Thakur and Suvinder Sanwan--had demanded Rs five lakh bribe from the owner of a factory manufacturing VCDs and DVDs at Mayapuri. They had threatened to book him under the Excise Act, if their demand was not met.

The owner who had agreed to pay them in installments, alerted the CBI.

One of the Inspectors was caught red-handed when he came to collect the first installment of Rs two lakh yesterday. The other Inspector was subsequently arrested.

Searches were conducted at the residential premises of both the accused.
