Strike called to demand district status for Jiribam

Imphal, Aug 8 (UNI) The Jiribam District Demand Committee today called for a 24-hour general strike demanding full revenue district status for the sub-division in Imphal East.

The strike started today at 0600 hrs and will continue till 0600 hrs tomorrow, sources said.

The committee had earlier staged several demonstrations in this regard.

The Manipur Cabinet had in principle agreed to grant full district status, however, it was in dilemma as several other organisations were demanding district status for other sub-divisions.
