NESO demands Education Commission for NE

Itanagar, Aug 9 (UNI): The North East Students' Organisation (NESO), a powerful student body here, has demanded constitution of a separate Education Commission for northeast.

NESO's newly elected secretary general Gumjum Haider told media persons here last evening that the region, especially Arunachal Pradesh, was laging much behind in education which need immediate attention. He said an exclusive education commission would prove beneficial not only to the state but for the entire region.

"Students from upper class from the region are heading towards mainland for better education in absence of good infrastructure, lack of pragmatic education, colleges and other institutions thus resulting in economic drain of the region", he said.

"People from the north eastern states are being treated as third class citizens of India", he pointed out while drawing the attention of the Centre for not taking initiative on various programmes in the region.

"If something of little significant happens in the vicinity of Delhi all those concerned would rush to those places but a serious issue of international importance in the region fails to evoke any response from the Centre", he argued.

Throwing light on the unabated influx of illegal migrants in the region, Mr Haider said the movement started by various students' body of the region of detecting and deporting them would be expedited by the newly elected executive body of NESO.

"We cannot allow to make NE a dumping ground for illegal migrants," he categorically said while condemning the 'fatwa' issued against NESO chairman Samujjal Bhattacharya.

Commenting on the contentious boundary problem between Arunachal and Assam, he disclosed that the apex students' body of the region was envisaging to hold a people to people dialogue between both the neighbouring states who have been maintaining cordial relations since ages.
