Mettur water to touch FRL again

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 8 (UNI) The Stanley Reservoir at Mettur across River Cauvery is all set to reach its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) for the second time, this year with the increase of inflow into it.

State Public Works Department (PWD) sources said the reservoir was getting copious inflow since last night, with heavy discharge of surplus water from major reservoirs in Karnataka. The dam is expected to reach FRL tonight. It had attained its FRL for the first time on July 15, this year.

The water level stood at 119.26 feet, as against its FRL of 120 feet. The inflow into the reservoir was 40,778 cusecs and the discharge was maintained at 20,000 cusecs.

From Grand Anaicut in Thanjavur District, about 1,773 cusecs of water was let out into River Cauvery and Vennar each, 2,704 cusecs into Grand Anaicut Canal and 800 cusecs into River Coleroon for irrigation purposes, the sources added.
