Infosys' two IT/ITES SEZs in AP get govt nod
New Delhi, Aug 8: The Board of Approval (BoA) of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) today granted formal approval to Infosys Technologies' proposal to set up two IT/ITES in Rangareddy district in Andhra Pradesh.
Infosys have already acquired 119.87 and 60.93 hectares of land for the purpose.
The board, headed by Commerce Secretary G K Pillai, also formally approved projects of Genpact India and Enfield Infrastructure to set up IT/ITES in Rajasthan and West Bengal respectively.
Both had earlier got in-principle approvals. Enfield's SEZ will come up on 16 hectares of land at Uttar Gazipur in South 24 Parganas, while Genpact's is slated to built on a ten hectare plot in Jaipur.
It gave in-principle approval to Ispat Industries for setting up a multi-product SEZ in 1,012 hectares of land in Raigad district in Maharasthra and to Veritas Infrastructure Development Ltd for establishing a biotech SEZ on 50 hectares of land, also in Raigad district. Both developers have yet to complete acquisition of land.
The BoA took up eight applications for setting up SEZs, including three for conversion of in-principle approvals to formal.
Mr Pillai said BoA has so far given formal approvals for setting up of 362 SEZs, of which 136 have been notified. He said more than Rs 45,377 crore have been invested in 136 notified SEZs which are providing direct employment to over 38,405 people.
