Funds available for fertiliser subsidy: PM assures

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today directed Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Fertiliser Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to make funds available for the fertiliser subsidy scheme, which may be reviewed in future.

Dr Singh issued the directive at a meeting to review issues pertaining to availability of funds for fertiliser subsidy.

Mr Chidambaram and Mr Paswan were asked to ensure that adequate funds are available to meet the disbursal requirements for fertiliser subsidy, the PMO said.

The Prime Minister said the existing subsidy system may have to be reviewed in the future, but the Government was committed to the present system and would ensure availability of funds to meet the requirements this year.

The PMO would ''resolve matters in this regard.'' The meeting was also attended by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and PM's Principal Secretary T K A Nair.
