Jammu, Aug 8: A Border Security Force soldier yesterday sustained bullet wounds when a group of militants, who were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory, opened fire from across the Line of Control (LoC) at Krishna Ghati in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here.

Naresh Kumar, head constable 49 BSF battalion was struck by three bullets in the chest, while he was guarding the border at post Number 25 at Salotri in Krishna Ghati area, a BSF spokesperson said.

''The firing can not be treated as 'violation of the ceasefire,' which was announced on the LoC since November 26, 2003 by India and Pakistan . It was cross-border firing by militants and not by Pakistani troops or Rangers,''he said.

''Yes, it is not clear whether the militants were infiltrating when they opened fire or they crossed the border and entered into our territory,'' the spokesperson added.

On May 26, an Army soldier was killed in a similar shooting incident. Meanwhile, the constable was shifted in ICU of a hospital where his condition was very critical, he said.
