Engineering student killed in mishap

Tirupati, Aug 8 (UNI) Tension prevailed when a final year B Tech student was killed in an accident on the Tirupati-Chennai Highway near Narayanavanam of Puttur mandal in Chittoor district here this morning.

Police said, a 24 year-old engineering student of Siddartha College, was killed on the spot when he was knocked down by a speedy lorry on Puttur-narayanavanam road.

The accident occured when he was going to the College by walk.

The victim, who belongs to Srikalahasthi, was staying with his relative in narayanavanam near the college.

Meanwhile, hundreads of student resorted to dharna before the college and blocked the highway for more than two hours, shouting slogans and demandeing immediate arrest of the lorry driver.

After intervention by police officials and college principal, the students dispersed, police said.
