Couple charred to death

Chennai, Aug 8 (UNI) An aged couple was charred to death when a fire broke out in a slum at K V Kuppam in North Chennai today.

Fire service sources said the victims, Ganesh (70), who had poor vision, and his wife Mary (60), were caught in the fire.

Mary tried to save her husband but both perished in the accident.

However, their two daughters, one of them handicapped, were rescued.

About 50 huts were damaged and seven firefighting units battled for an hour to put out the blaze.
