5 land mafias arrested

Kanpur, Aug 8 (UNI) Five land mafias were arrested for encroaching upon the land of dalits in Kanpur City.

The incident took place late last night at Krishna Nagar Colony in Chakeri area, when some armed miscreants started driving dalits out of their houses.

The land mafias also issued the aggrieved dalits with life threats, police said.

Later, five persons were nabbed from the spot.

Police in strength had been deployed in the area to avert any fresh violence.
