ZP members protest against dilution of powers to local bodies

Mysore, Aug 7 (UNI) The members of Mysore Zilla Panchayat today slammed the Karnataka government for dilution the powers of the ZPs by bringing amendments to the ZP Act.

Soon after the general meeting began here today, the members registered their protest by tearing the copies of the agenda and rushed to the podium shouting slogans against the government.

The opposition leader Kempanna appealed to the members to tender mass resignation opposing the move. Another member Chowdaiah said that in order to appease the MLAs, the government had cut the powers of ZPs.

Later the members, cutting across party affiliations, staged a walkout.
