Three quintals Poppy straw recovered in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 7 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police have recovered three hundred kg of poppy straw in south Kashmir, a police spokesman said.

He said a tip off was received that some smuggler had stored poppy straw in village Chursu in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

A special team headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) immediately conducted a search operation in the area.

Later, 300 kg of poppy straw was recovered near a dhaba. However, no one was arrested, he said, adding a case has been registered and a massive hunt launched to nab the smugglers.

More than 1000 kg of poppy straw, charas and bhang has been recovered and destroyed by the police in south Kashmir during the past three months.

About a dozen smugglers have also been arrested.

The police had also recovered brown sugar worth crores of rupees from smugglers in north Kashmir recently.
